| I am
researching the surnames Ham,
Smart,
Kelley
and their spouses families. My Ham ancestry has been traced to Amherst County, Virginia in the mid 1700s where Stephen Ham was born. His family migrated through the Carolinas and Georgia arriving in Coffee County in 1858. His grandson James W. Ham, Sr. died there shortly after the family arrived in Alabama and his grave is the oldest marked grave in Evergreen Cemetery, Elba, Alabama. My Smart family has been traced from North Carolina to Alabama in the 1830's. Eliza Jane Smart married Virgil Newton Bowers in Coffee County, Alabama on December 25, 1868. I am especially interested in tracking Virgil's ancestors. I do know that Virgil had a brother named William Jasper Bowers and both brothers are buried in Beaverdam Cemetery, Coffee County, Alabama. Both brothers were born in Pike County, Alabama. I am just beginning to start the illusive search on the Kelley branch of my tree. I know that James Jeff Kelley, born 1874, married Frances Arena Mobley, born 1880, (my great grand parents). They are both buried at Victoria Cemetery, Coffee County, Alabama. Any help with these families will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
